Late summer 2001
On our way up to North Carolina we planned to stop and visit family. We
parked on Judy's uncle's place where there was plenty of room for our rig.
Clayton & Joyce welcomed us to park in the back yard where there still some
shade from the waning late summer sun. We didn't need A/C for long as the
weather cooled quickly.
We thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quite of this south Georgia location. The
pecans were coming in and we collected a nice batch for shelling and eating.
Of course the pecans made dandy pies that dripped with whip topping and a scoop of
vanilla ice cream!
The honey bees were not far from giving up and delicious batch of honeycomb.
They weren't the only busy buzzing critters around though!
This hornet's nest would attest to that!
Clayton and Joyce are in the
process of restoring the old homestead.
The grounds were lush with old flowing camellias and many other plants that go
back over a hundred years.
They were both busy working on remodeling inside the house on the
weekends.
It all was coming together quite nicely and we look forward to seeing the end
results!
We weren't far from Judy's father's place closer to Cairo. They had rented a nice house where we all enjoyed Mary Ruth's wonderful home
cooking!
The pond out back was stocked with what seemed like a million fish. They liked
to be fed from the little dock which extended out over the water. It was a great
place to relax and watch the sun set.
Rosco and Mary Ruth were busy planning their new home just across the road from Clayton and Joyce's while we were there.
Right now most of the land is covered with a pine tree forest and pecan trees.
There is a lush area near the south end that has a creek running through it.
They have since cleared a spot to begin building a new house.
Spring - Summer 2003
A new place for family to grow.
Spring 2006
Here we are back again at the old homestead. Our new "Home
Base" back East. It is time to establish some of the other amenities we had
been putting off so we set to getting things laid out. Here is a a view of the
grassy area out front where Judy has been busy planning her garden. She enjoys
keeping some containers growing as we travel but there is nothing like really
getting your hands dirty working up the soil for a new garden plot.
It seems like there is always a new dog looking for a home. This
one showed up the night we pulled in a decided he was home. How can you argue
with such a sweet face as this?
We named him Blacky. Go figure.
One of the top priorities for our long term comfort at this location was to
install a septic system. That way we can easily hook-up and also share more
easily with our friends when they come to visit.
There's always plenty to do. Plenty of projects to keep us busy.
